Cardiac Rehabilitation

When it comes to heart disease, heart attack or surgery, exercise is an important part of healing. But how do patients do that without over-taxing their sometimes weakened hearts? Med Center Health’s Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Services can help patients find safe, effective ways to get stronger, lose weight, increase stamina, and return to a healthy life. Cardiac Rehabilitation is available to patients who are referred by a physician and whose medical records have been reviewed by our rehabilitation staff.

Cardiac Rehabilitation for Recovery and Avoiding Future Hospital Visits

Med Center Health’s Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Services helps patients who have suffered a heart attack, been diagnosed with heart disease, or are recovering from surgery get back to healthier lives safely and effectively.

Often beginning in the hospital after a heart attack or surgery, cardiac rehabilitation includes education, exercise and counseling on ways to create healthier habits. It’s designed to help patients get stronger, lose weight, reduce stress and build stamina – but most importantly, feel better and reduce the risk of future heart problems.

We help you understand your heart condition and find ways to reduce your risk of future heart problems. In order to help you adjust to your new lifestyle, the Healthy Hearts team provides strategies and tools that are proven successful. We’ll teach you how to exercise safely so you can strengthen your muscles and build stamina. You’ll learn which machines are best for your condition and we’ll work with you to design an exercise program you’ll actually want to do.

We administer the program in three phases, with phase one starting while the patient is still hospitalized. Phase two is usually outpatient and are one hour sessions scheduled three days a week, lasting 8 to 12 weeks. Phase 3 is on-going maintenance of the program and can be scheduled on an individual basis for as long as the patient wishes.

Our patient education program includes basic nutritional information and diabetes control. It also dovetails nicely into our medical nutrition therapy and diabetes management programs.

The Medical Center at Bowling Green Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Programs are certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation.
